One month full of lights, Glühwein (hot wine with nutmeg, cardamom and cinnamon), and handmade decoration starting the 25th of November. German christmas markets are, together with the ones in Scandinavia, the most famous around the world. and though there are very famous and beautiful ones all over the country, as for example in Munich or Leipzig, we will give you some tips to enjoy the german christmas markets you¨ll be able to find right here, in Berlin.
The Weihnachtsmarkt am Alexanderplatz is one of the most visited german Christmas markets, as its very central and shinny – its lights will catch you! You will be able to find a fair inside this market, with fairground rides as a rollercoaster and a big wheel from which you’ll get the best view of the city. But there’s a lot more! You can have a glass of a delicious hot wine, together with a heart-shaped cookie with a sweet message on it – typical from german Christmas markets, or a Bratwurst to stay warm. And check the house-made chips in the orange tent, you won’t regret it!
Another well known market in the city is the Gerdamenmarkt, sheltered by two beautiful churches – the french and the german dam – as well as the Konzerthaus. This setting is a dream come true for any german Christmas markets! For this one a fee is charged at the main entrance – 3€ – but i can assure you it’s worh it. Inside you will discover a market full of wool socks and scarfs, beautiful handmade figures and a stage with live music, don’t be afraid to join the dancing couples!
