Berlin is a good Summer destination as it does not suffer from the unbearable heat of many European destinations, it can however be cold in the Winter so pack your thermals. There is a wealth of historical, geographical or cultural activities to entertain you once you arrive in the city. You will need to shop around for budget flights or train fares to Berlin but once there your budget need not be a problem. Eating cheaply is easy. The huge Turkish population
means that many streets have stands selling the tasty gyro sandwiches. These are economical and filling, saving on expensive hotel and restaurant meals. In the St Nikolas Quarter you can soak up some culture and history walking the streets and you will find many economical restaurants here. Berlin is renowned for its hostels, most of which are clean and comfortable if a little Spartan but will certainly not break your budget.
You only need a small budget in Berlin
It is easy to travel around the city using buses and the efficient urban trains. Stretch your money further by investing in a 48 hour pass. If your budget does not stretch to paying entrance fees for castles and museums make the most of the huge city parks or travel out to the marvellous gardens surrounding the castles of Potsdam. One tourist attraction not to be missed that won’t cost you a penny is the kilometre long remaining stretch of the Berlin Wall, covered with graffiti style paintings showing the history of the flight to freedom from East to West. Stretch your budge even further by going window shopping, an economical venture for a weekend break as many shops close Saturday afternoon and do not reopen until Monday morning!
